Occasionally Greater Omaha Leagues has the pleasure to sponsor participants in activities other than traditional bar game sports. This was the case on July 27th, 2013. Greater Omaha Leagues sponsored a youth grappler for the inaugural Victory Grappling Championships at the Ralston Arena, as well as a MMA fighter for the Victory Fighting Championships event later that night. We are thrilled to spread the word about our amazing league system with the help of a select few people who represent us with respect and professionalism. Our youth grappler was none other than our own dart league player, Kole Gray; whose moniker “The Pitbull” is put on display each time he steps onto the mat, whether it is in a wrestling tournament or a submission grappling event like this one. We also offer our continued support of amateur mixed martial arts fighter Mike Messer, who was competing on the undercard of Victory Fighting Championships 40; live in front of 4,000 screaming fans. Messer, a former collegiate baseball player, has turned his competitive sights on mixed martial arts and puts just as much work into honing this craft as his previous one. Both Gray and Messer helped each other train for their respective events in the weeks leading up July 27th at Evolve MMA. Kole Gray finished his grappling tournament with a Silver Medal, coming up short against the eventual Gold Medalist after getting caught in a kimura submission with 10 seconds left in the round. Gray has vowed to continue his training and redeem himself at the next Victory Grappling Championships on December 14th, 2013…once again at the Ralston Arena. Mike Messer fought a three round war with Bellevue wrestler Troy Nawrocki (6-1) in a fight that could have been considered for the Fight of the Night Award. Even in defeat, Messer was respectful and gave his opponent credit for his successful strategy and told us following the event that he would return to the gym and continue working on his skillset and cardio conditioning. Either way, both Gray and Messer have their heads held high and are focused on the next event. Greater Omaha Leagues are proud to be represented by both Kole Gray and Mike Messer.
