October 2011 - "Cigar Factory Qualifier Finale Event"
The finale event of Cigar Factory’s second Luck of the Draw Qualifier Series was a huge success!
Everyone involved had a great time and there were upsets throughout the night that no one would’ve expected.
The Cigar Factory not only provided the added $800+ to the pot, but they also paid additional money to the top overall point earners throughout the series.
Brats and fire popcorn was provided by The Cigar Factory for the players to enjoy at their leisure throughout the evening.
One of the heavy favorites, Bub Smith and Dan Brodersen Sr, two of the top 3 overall point earners were unable to work well together and finished in 4th Place.
Sherry Jones and Frank Hintze complimented each other beautifully throughout the night, knocking off teams left and right and earning their position in 3rd Place and $75 each.
The finals saw Whitey Smith and Mike Gantt defeat Amy Smith & Cheryl Brodersen in the finals.
Throughout the entire event, players had fun dressing in themes, throwing darts, winning money and just socializing with each other. This is one of the events that I look forward to each time and can’t wait for the next one to start.
We will keep you posted on any developments...

October 2011 - "Omaha Summer Pool League Winding Down"
The Omaha Summer Pool League is proving to once again be a success. Players from all over the metro are working towards the league championship, while gaining eligibility for the Heartland Tournament in Columbus, Nebraska.
The Heartland Tournament is an annual pool tournament held each January in Columbus, Nebraska and is one of the largest pool tournaments in the region. To become eligible to participate in the Heartland Tournament, players must play in a Heartland sanctioned league, ours being one of them.
The bars being represented in the Omaha Summer Pool League are Stoli’s Lounge, Time Clock Lounge, Guacamaya Mexican Restaurant and The Shark Club.
Enjoying the top spot in the standings right now is The Shark Club “Werner”, as they have proven to be the team to beat this season. The top players thus far are Dennis Diemer from “Stroke It”, Dustin Gunia from “Lansdowne” and Bill Lansdowne from “Lansdowne”, who are all resting with an average of over 9 balls per game.
If there’s one thing I’ve noticed with this league, it’s not over until it’s over and no team can be counted out until the final game is played.

October 2011 - "Omaha Dart League is Firing Up"
Greater Omaha Leagues is proud to inform everyone that the Omaha Monday Night Doubles 501/Cricket Dart League is under way and the action is already heated up.
After two weeks of play, it’s still anyone’s Championship. I have spoken with the teams and everyone is enjoying this season already.
The league is mixed with new and returning players. It seems to be a perfect blend to make an enjoyable and competitive season for everyone involved.
Mojo’s Smokehouse in Aksarben Village is excited to have two teams representing them in the hunt for the League Championship. They have Steve Garrean Jr. & Tim Isham forming “1 Jerk & 1 Squirt” as well as Craig Hall & Julie Garrean comprising “Unstoppable”.
The Loose Moose Sports Bar is also experiencing their first league representation with “Flipadelphia” featuring Zach Hunnel & Dusty Axtell and “Scissor Me Timbers” featuring Dennis & Darin Ault.
On top of these teams, Underwood Bar has a returning “D-Lo” team consisting of Mark Hladky & Brian Bowman that ended last season with a good showing at the league tournament and look to build upon that. They have gotten off to a great start, currently sitting atop the standings after two weeks of play.
We are proud to offer leagues that not only showcase competition, but fun as well. We try to keep as much of the drama out of the leagues and let our players have a say in everything. If you are interested in our leagues, email [email protected] for more information.

September 2011 - "Plattsmouth Summer Doubles Pool League Tournament Results"
In the 3rd annual Plattsmouth Summer Doubles Pool League, the
action was as close as it’s ever been. Rankings moved back and forth throughout the season with the eventual League Champions, Casey Van Helten & Jay Speck, pulling away towards the end.
There were a mere tenths of a percentage point separating the 2nd and 3rd place teams during the league. When the competition is that close, it really makes for an enjoyable league.
There were a handful of bars represented, Plattsmouth VFW, Albo’s Bar, DC’s Waterhole and Country Bar all had teams playing in their name.
The banquet was held on Sunday August 28th at Plattsmouth VFW and featured a first round matchup between the 1st & 2nd place teams in the league, VFW “Refuse to Lose” and Country Bar “Midget & Me”.
The VFW team proved to once again be just a bit better, edging out the Country Bar team and dropping them to the loser’s bracket.
“Refuse to Lose” knocked off fellow VFW team “Caught Strokin” in the 2nd round and found themselves in the rocking chair. Not to be discouraged, “Midget & Me” made short work of both Albo’s “Locked & Loaded” and defeated “Caught Strokin” to earn their spot back in the finals and yet another showdown with the League Champions.
After a bit of smack talk from both sides, play resumed and it was apparent that the undefeated “Refuse to Lose” had cooled off and the team of Sonny Seyler & Tim Isham were warmed up and had momentum at hand.
Winning the first set, 2-1, Seyler and Isham continued to roll with their momentum and down Casey Van Helten, the league MVP and Jay Speck, the 2nd highest player in league, 2-0 in the second match to become Summer 2011 Pool Tournament Champions!

September 2011 - "Cass County Summer Dart Banquet/Tournament Results"
Summer 2011 Dart League Banquet had some upsets and a lot of great
dart play. In the end, the finals of the Coed League saw Aaron “A-Rod” Halagarda and Bev Halagarda crowned Tournament Champions after defeating heavy favorites Cheryl Brodersen & Brandon Tiemeyer in the finals.
The Trios tournament went pretty much how everyone planned in the end, with Cigar Factory’s “2 Hands & A Stranger” being crowned Champions after defeating VFW’s “2 High 4 Baldy” in the finals and finishing the tournament unbeaten in match play.
Surprisingly enough, “2 Hands & A Stranger” found their most challenging match against “Over the Hill Gang”, who finished second to last in league, but took the eventual Champions to the 5th game in the five game series.
It was a great way to finish league play before the 6 week hiatus before the Fall season and we look forward to more fun nights starting in the end of September.

September 2011 - "Happy Hour Pricing"
We at Greater Omaha Leagues are always looking for different ways
to make playing your favorite bar game easier and more affordable.
We know that right now the economy is bad and every one, including our players, could use a break every now and then. That is the main reason that
we are going to begin offering Happy Hour Pricing.
During the Fall Dart League season, we will be setting the dart machines to offer half price games for the hours following league. This way, if you want to stay and continue playing after you’ve completed league play, you can do so for less.
Is there a game on the dartboard that you’ve been wanting to try? Well, during Happy Hour Pricing, you can try that game for half price!
The theory is simple, give back to your players since they spend their hard earned money with us. We hope everyone enjoys the Happy Hour Pricing and look forward to hearing feed back from everyone.

August 2011 - "2nd Annual Cass County Dart Championships Results"
The 2nd Annual Cass County Dart Championships event was held Friday
July 22nd through Sunday July 24th, 2011 and featured several different
tournament options to crown the new Cass County Dart Champions!
The first event up was Friday night July 22nd and was held at Tiki Time Bar & Grill in Beaver Lake, Nebraska. This event saw a major upset when the lowest combined MPR team ended up becoming the 2011 Cass County Co-Ed Doubles Champions. That team consisted of Perry McDaneld and Tammy Jordan.
The next event was the Adult/Youth Doubles tournament in which several area youths were looking to become the new Champion, while Kole Gray was looking to retain his title.
Kole Gray fell short, even after throwing a “Three In the Bed” and winning one game with over a 21.0 PPD! The Championship match was between reigning Champion, Steve Garrean Jr. and his new partner, 11 year old Dakota Kozol and Aaron Halagarda with his partner Chance Taylor.
Garrean and Kozol proved to be no match for the hot games of Halagarda and Taylor, being swept 2 straight games in the finals.
The event scheduled for Saturday night was the Doubles Cricket event and featured a round robin format where everyone played everyone.
Despite returning to defend their Championship, “The Wolfpack”, consisting of father-son duo, Steve Garrean Sr & Steve Garrean Jr. fell short this year.
The two teams that steamrolled to the finals of the Doubles Tournament were Bev Halagarda & Amber Abbott and heavy favorites, Sonny Seyler & Brandon Tiemeyer, who ended up taking home the Cass County Doubles Championship.
The final event ended up being held on Sunday, back at the VFW. The Singles Cricket event showed surprises, like last year’s Champion, Steve Garrean Jr, being the first player eliminated from the tournament.
In the end, it ended up being Sonny Seyler taking on Gary Foster in the finals. Sonny Seyler took care of the match and quickly added the Singles Championship to his already earned Doubles Championship.
Each year this event has been fun for everyone, but it always seems more fun for the children participating in the Adult/Youth tournament. That is one of the big reasons we hold this event, for the young dart enthusiasts.
Please take time out to congratulate this year’s Champions if you see them out and about and encourage the young players to stick with it and keep improving, because they are the County Champions of tomorrow.

August 2011 - "Plattsmouth VFW Equalizer Luck of Draw Dart Tournament Results"
The Plattsmouth VFW hosted an Equalizer Luck of the Draw Dart Tournament on Friday, July 8th, 2011 and had a good turnout for the event. The jukebox was going steady all night long and a good time was had by all in attendance. There were a few upsets throughout the tournament, but in the end it still ended up being a showdown between the two teams with the highest combined MPRs.
The finals of the night saw Aaron Halagarda and Gary Foster take on Brandon Tiemeyer and Frank Hintze in a back and forth battle. When it was all said and done, it was Aaron Halagarda and Gary Foster who came out on top and took home the Championship for the night.
Several players have expressed interest in holding Luck of the Draw tournaments more often and possibly switching up the games that we play to keep things interesting. There could be a night where we play Hammer Cricket, Count Up, Gotcha, etc.
I would like to have everyone’s input on these ideas, so we know if it’s actually something the players are interested in.

July 2011 - "Brothers in Arms...The Invasion Begins"
One thing stood out above the rest this last Cass County Dart League season. There is becoming more interest from the younger generation in the dart league and tournaments.
This was never more apparent then when the Spring 2011 Cass County
season featured two brothers finishing in the Top 6 on two separate teams. The brothers were, Kole “The Pitbull” Gray, who finished 5th with his mother Carla Weirauch and Kody “Pimpin” Gray, who became the youngest player to earn a league trophy, taking 3rd Place with his Uncle, Steve Garrean Jr.
Both of these brothers have shown a continued interest in the game of darts, and it began when they competed in the 2010 Cass County Dart Championship’s Adult/Youth tournament.
That event ended with Kole Gray taking home the Championship and feeding his desire to play along side his adult counterparts.
Since that day, both brothers have played in several Luck of the Draw Tournaments in Cass County, Nebraska.
Kole Gray has already begun searching for a team for the Fall Dart League and plans to defend his Cass County Adult/Youth Championship with his grandfather, Steve Garrean Sr. on July 23rd, 2011.
I’m sure this is not the last you will hear of these two brothers as they continue to craft their skills.

July 2011 - "Juli Currans Set New Cass County Dart League Record!"
Juli Currans, who has been playing in the Cass County Dart League off and on for well over a decade, has written her name in the record books.
In the Spring 2011 season, she hit more Hat Tricks in a single season than any other female to date.
She has been red hot as of late and although she decided to sit out the Summer season, hopefully will return in the Fall.
Apparently the ability to throw bullseyes runs in the Currans family, as her son, Cody Currans brought home the Hat Trick Award for the Spring 2011 Team Cricket League, after only one year in the league.
I have a feeling that we will be mentioning the Currans family more in the future as Juli & Cody continue to improve and Juli’s other sons Tyler Currans and Anthony “Twon” Kienast, a former “Newcomer of the Year” award winner are also improving in leaps and bounds.

July 2011 - "Cass County Dart League Comes Together to Support One of Their Own"
Tiki Time Bar & Grill hosted a benefit Luck of the Draw Dart Tournament, Raffle and BBQ Brisket feed for Steve Garrean Jr. on June 26th, 2011.
The event was to help him raise money to get to the Visalus “Vitality” Event in Orlando, Florida July 15th-17th.
He began his weight loss competition on March 16th, 2011 and 90 days later had lost 73 pounds and 46 1/4 Total Inches off of his body.
The only thing left was for him to get to the finale event and represent himself, his sponsors and his supporters.
Dozens of league players, friends and family came out to Tiki Time to show their support for Steve and everything that he has been able to accomplish.
The dart tournament was a huge success and the raffle was amazing with prizes donated by Tiki Time, Hervey Coin-Op, Godfather’s Pizza, Subway, Firehouse Grill and Midwest Fighters Focus.
That is one of the things that the Cass County League prides itself on, being there for each other and showing support. Over the years, they have organized and held numerous benefit tournaments and
events.
Steve would also like everyone to know that the product he used for his weight loss is Body by Vi and information can be found at http://judgebigstevegarrean.bodybyvi.com
The Plattsmouth VFW and Steve are also planning a Body by Vi tasting party on Thursday July 7th, 2011 starting at 8pm. If you or anyone that you know would like to taste several different shake flavors and get some information on how you can lose weight like several of our league players, everyone is invited. Bring friends and family as well.

July 2011 - "Promo-Nation & Greater Omaha Leagues Giving Back to SSB & GT Players"
For several months now, Greater Omaha Leagues and Promo-Nation have been working together to bring players the “Loyalty Rewards” program.
The concept is simple, once you’ve played so many games in a given month, you start earning free games in the form of a gift card.
This idea has been taken to a new level! Now, if you place in regional contests, you earn points. The points are redeemable at an online shopping mall on www.promo-nation.com.
Simply register, keep playing and earn points. From there you can save them up and treat yourself to a big shopping spree or just buy something that you’ve been wanting. This is the evolution of the bar game industry and we are proud to help our players get more for their money.
This is simply the beginning! We are working on more and more things and we will update all of you as we progress in our upcoming newsletters.
